Monday 30 November 2009 was a memorable day in Primary Schools soccer events in the Kingdom:
It was the day when the first ever Primary Schools Futsal Finals took place catering for pupils in third and fourth class:
The venue for these finals was Killorglins Sports and Leisure Centre: The facility, under the guidance of Myles O’Brien, had seen fit to lay a state of the art futsal floor in their facility: Therefore it was a most suitable setting for this inaugural event:
The entries for the competition came from all parts of the county, Dingle, Tralee, Killarney and stretching down to Sneem:
There were 15 schools participating in the boy’s competition and 3 schools entered the girl’s competition:
On the day, the competition was run from the group stages through to semi finals, and the Finals of the Boys and Girls Section:
The teams to reach the Girls Final were/ Bunscoil An Chlochair Dingle and Abbeydorney NS: A great display by the Dingle Girls just saw them shade a very close affair and claim the title:
The teams to reach the Semi Finals in the Boys Section were/ Holy Family Tralee, the Monastery Killarney, Knockaderry NS Farranfore and St Michaels NS, Sneem:
After much endeavour and lots of skill, Holy Family and Knockaderry took their places in the Final:
The Final was a very close affair with two fantastic displays by both keepers: It took extra time and golden goal to separate the Finalists with Knockaderry just edging out the Tralee school to take the title on a scoreline of 1/0:
Overall a fantastic days Futsal took place with over 192 (156 boys and 36 girls) students participating in a wonderful day:
There was 64 goals in total, thrills and spills and the schools are eager to take part next year and defend their titles:
