The Xtra/vision FAI Schools 5 A Side took place on Tuesday, 20 April and Wednesday 21April at Lees Road Sports Complex , both days saw glorious sunshine and plenty of skill and excitement, saves and goals: This year’s competition had a mixture of experienced traditional and new schools participating in the competition for the first time:
An impressive 34 schools entered this year with 63 teams participating in total: All games were played on 6 small sided pitches:
The “A” Section for small sized schools in both categories was played on Tuesday with 27 boys teams and 17 girls teams taking part:
A skillful Cooraclare side captured the Boys “A” title with a comprehensive victory over a young Klmaley side: In fact it turned out to be a double disappointment for Kilmaley as their Girls team had to also give second best as they were defeated 3/1 by a very strong Newmarket on Fergus side in the Girls “A” Cup Final:
The “B” Section for medium sized schools in both categories took place on Wednesday with 8 boys teams and 7 girls teams participating:
St: Senan’s, Kilrush captured the boys title when they defeated a very young Knockanean side 3/2 in a very exciting final: While in the Girls an impressive Holy Family National School Ennis defeated Ennis National National School 1/0 in the final to progress to the Munster Finals:
St: Conaire’s of Shannon emerged as winners in the Boys “C” Category after a very close challenge from both Ennis National and Holy Family Ennis:
Denis Hynes Development Officer for Clare thanked all Schools for taking part over the 2 days and wished the winning teams the best of luck in the Munster Finals which take place at Regional Sports Centre Waterford on Wednesday 12 May
He also thanked the referees, supplied by St Flannan’s College and Lees Road Sports Complex for the preparation work and use of their excellent facilities:
