High School Clonmel & Colaiste Dun Iascaigh dominate Tipperary Futsal Finals

11 boys’ first year teams representing 7 schools took part in the Tipperary Post Primary Futsal blitz held in the impressive facility of Colaiste Mhuire Co. Ed in Thurles on Thursday 4 November.

One group of 6 and a group of 5 meant 26 games took place in the Futsal marathon event.

The host school Colaiste Mhuire Co. Ed kicked off proceedings against St. Josephs Borrisoleigh ‘B’ team and it was Colaiste Mhuire who came out on top 3-2.

Newcomers to the tournament Thurles CBS were next on for their Futsal debut but they came up against a very strong High School ‘A’ team who came out victorious on a 4-0 score line.

96 goals were scored on the day with some exciting matches played throughout with all teams providing great spectacles for all onlookers.

As both group stages came to a conclusion both High school teams topped their respective groups.

So the final turned out to be an all High school Clonmel affair.

The final itself was a tight game as there proved to be very little between the teams with the game finishing 0-0 after normal time.

The final was eventually won in extra time golden goal with High School ‘A’ getting the elusive winner. The High School now go on to represent Tipperary in the Munster Finals to be held at the Nenagh Arena on Thursday 18th November.

GIRLS POST PRIMARY FINALS

4 schools from Tipperary took part in the Tipperary Girls Post Primary Futsal competition on 5 November.

With all teams having to play each other it was sure to be another exciting day of Futsal activity.

First out to play were host school Colaiste Mhuire Co. Ed who were up against neighbouring school the Presentation form Thurles.

The Presentation quickly took control of this game and raced in to an early 3-0 lead. They continued their dominance in to the second half and eventually ran out comfortable 9-0 winners.

Next up were St. Josephs’ school Borrisoleigh who were taking on Colaiste Dun Iascaigh from Cahir. Representing the Cahir school were members of the Cahir Girls Primary school who last year were beaten Munster finalists in their category of the Xtra Vision 5-a-side.

The Cahir girl’s dominated this game from start to finish running out 9-1 victors.

The eventual group decider took place with the Presentation Thurles taking on Colaiste Dun Iascaigh school from Cahir.

This was an excellent game of futsal with the Cahir school going one up just before half time.

As the Presentation school pushed for an equaliser in the second half the Cahir girls hit them with two quick goals to secure victory and the eventual title of Tipperary Girls First Year Futsal champions.

An impressive 42 goals were scored in the 6 games and Colaiste Dun Iascaigh now go on to represent Tipperary in the Munster Finals at the Nenagh Arena on Wednesday November 17th.
