The Cork Boys Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals took place on Monday last (November 14) in Little Island Community Centre:
Six schools contested the crown with Douglas Community School, Nagle Community School, Colaiste Muire, Cobh, Ashton School, Colaiste Ghobhatan and Cobh Community College all participating:
The groups were divided into two with Douglas topping the bill in group 1 and Ashton topping group 2 in the early stages to advance automatically to the semis
The second and third place finishers in each group were drawn in the quarter finals with Nagle Community College advancing ahead of Cobh Community College on a narrowest of margins with a 3/2 score line:
Colaiste Ghobhatan went down 1/4 to a skilful Colaiste Muire who impressed throughout the group stages:
The semi finals saw Nagle 4/1 winners against Ashton while Douglas and Colaiste Muire ended in a 2/2 draw: The game decided on penalties with Colaiste Muire edging it 3/1 after the period of extra time maintained their deadlock:
Thus it was to be Nagle Community College and Colaiste Muire in the finale: Both goalkeepers were outstanding as a brace of goal scoring opportunities were denied by the industrious duo at either end of the park:
The game was so close to call that it required extra time to decide the winner: Colaiste Muire finally got the winner and advance to the Munster Finals on Wednesday next, November 23 in the Nenagh Arena: Colaiste Muire 1/0 Nagle CC
