The Clare Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were held last Wednesday at Shannon Leisure Centre
St: Flannan’s College, Ennis had a fantastic campaign in both the boys and girls section capturing the double:
The SAINTS defeated a gallant Ennistymon CBS in the boys final while the girls put the icing on the cake when they overcame Spanish Point in their final:
The exciting nature of futsal was evident in the boy’s final, as St: Flannan’s raced into a 7/0 half time lead:
However the Ennistymon CBS side began to claw back the lead and got as close as 7 – 5 with two minutes remaining before Maurice Nugent sealed the title for the Ennis side with the final goal just as the noise of the final whistle was heard:
This year’s boy’s competition saw 11 boys teams enter comprising of 7 schools from the following schools: Ennistymon CBS, Spanish Point, St: Flannan’s College, Rice College, Ennis, St: Caimin’s College, Shannon, St: Patrick’s Comprehensive, Shannon, and Gort Community College:
The girl’s futsal competition was another fantastic display of futsal and proved to be of a very high standard: The group saw 7 teams from 6 Schools compete: These included St: Flannan’s College, St: Caimin’s College, Shannon, St: Patrick’s Comprehensive, Rice College Ennis, Spanish Point and Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon all entering to set a new record for participation among Clare’s Post Primary schools:
After a series of very close games, a very well balanced St: Flannan’s College emerged victorious after defeating Spanish Point in a dramatic final:
St: Flannan’s College now looks forward to representing Clare at next Tuesday’s Munster Finals which will be held in Nenagh Arena in Tipperary:
