The An Post FAI Schools Clare 5-a-side competition was held in the marvellous surrounds of Lees Road Sports Complex on Wednesday, April 25 and Thursday, April 26:

Both days had displays of skill, excitement and goals from the 632 participants:

An impressive 37 schools entered this year with 79 teams participating in total in a highly contested competition with the emphasis on participation and enjoyment:

Four schools were making their debuts in the competition as St: Aidan’s NS Shannon, Ballyvaughan NS,  Scariff NS and Lissycasey NS  brought colour and skill to the annual 5-a-side event:

The “B” Schools Section for medium sized schools in both categories (boys and girls) took place on Wednesday with 16 boy’s teams and 12 girl’s teams participating:

Knockanean NS defended their title  when they defeated debutants St: Aidan’s NS of Shannon convincingly in the final:   

While in the girls section, it was St: Aidan’s NS who went one better than their male colleagues by defeated Ennis NS 1 – 0 to cap a very impressive debut for the Shannon based school and claim County honours:

In the “C” Schools section for large schools Ennis NS reclaimed the title as they defeated a talented Holy Family NS also of Ennis in the group decider:
 

The “A” Schools section for small sized schools in both categories (girls and boys) was played on Thursday with 28 boys teams and 19 girls teams participating:

A skillful Annagh NS  side captured the “A” Schools title with a hard earned 3 – 1  victory over an impressive Burrane NS side in the Final:

The Girls “A” Schools Cup was captured by a skillful Miltown Malbay NS who defeated a brave Newmarket on Fergus NS, and so added another title to the Clare Community Games Futsal title that they captured last Sunday:

Mr: Denis Hynes Development Officer for Clare thanked all Schools for taking part over the two days and wished the winning teams the best of luck in the Munster Finals which take place at Mounthawk Park in Tralee  on Wednesday, May 16

He also thanked the referees, supplied by Clare VEC Sports and Leisure Course  & Lees Road Sports Complex for the preparation work and use of their excellent facilities
