Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG, Corcaigh 2-0 Summerhill College, Sligo

Lee O’Cochlain (5), Seán O’Croidhean (37)

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK GAELCHOLÁISTE MHUIRE AG, CORCAIGH netted a sensational brace to see past Summerhill College, Sligo in the FAI Schools Minor Boys National Cup Semi Final in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore Town FC last week (Tuesday, May 6).

Two incredible goals either side of the half left Under 15s International Charlie McGarvey stunned as he couldn’t stop both spectacular efforts on target.

Senan Hopkins tested the Cork keeper early on as Dara Ó Conchuir managed to muffle his attempt on target inside the first two minutes. Charlie McGarvey saved Jamie Ó Murnáin’s effort soon after.

The Cork outfit took the lead in the fifth minute when Lee O’COCHLAIN smashed in a sublime strike from 25 yards out to the top corner.

Their good fortune was short-lived however when their keeper Dara Ó Conchuir was forced off through injury ten minutes later as the brave defender Scott Ó Tuama was introduced between the posts. Ó Tuama was in the thick of it straight away when he caught a Sligo free-kick on the six yard line to deny Captain Shane Filan.

Gaelcholaiste Mhuire took the slight lead into the break.

The Cork side doubled their tally two minutes into the restart when Alex Ó Maoldomhnaigh played in  Seán Ó Croidheán who unleashed a rocket from 30 yards to see it sail over McGarvey’s head and into the roof of the net!

Despite Scott Ó Tuama’s lack of goalkeeping experience, the youngster kept his side in the game as he pulled off some excellent saves to deny Feeney and Filan.

Sligo’s Pol Arnold had a gilt edged opportunity to grab one back for his team but his glancing header just skimmed the crossbar before the hour mark.

A frustrating afternoon for Brendan Fitzsimons crew as they couldn’t get past Craig Ó Suilleabháin or Jamie Daltúin in the Cork defence.

A happy Lorcan Ó Laoghóg will see his side march onto a first National Cup Final for the Cork side however he will be hoping that goalkeeper Dara Ó Conchuir will be fit for the showdown which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 (1.0).

The other semi-final was played earlier in the day in Cootehill Harps AFC, Cavan which saw Deele College, Raphoe 6-1 winners over De La Salle College, Churchtown, Dublin.
