THE CATS bagged a hat-trick of goals against kingpins Moville Community College to advance to their first Bank of Ireland FAI Schools Senior Girls National Cup Final.
Margaret Mulhall’s side were missing International star Roma McLaughlin, following an injury last weekend which ruled her out. A massive blow for the Ulster qualifiers heading into this crunch encounter.
Jenny Reddy’s ladies were new to these proceedings but started the stronger in a windswept Dundalk Sports Centre. Orlaith Conlon came close to scoring following 22 minutes of action packed play. After some good work down the left wing by Hannah Scott she picked out Conlon who was free on the edge of the box. The youngster unleashed a powerful drive but just drifted wide of the mark. A light relief for Anderson in goal, but this was short lived.
The O’Keeffe twins had Kilkenny in the driving seat before the interval with a brace of goals. Ciara Delaney added to their tally in the second period to book their place in this year’s showcase. The Kilkenny School were domineering throughout the park and will be definitely ones to watch out for in the Cup Final scheduled for Wednesday, February 24.
Reddy’s squad will now await the winners of the other semi-final which sees the experienced Presentation Secondary School, Thurles against another dominant force, Meánscoil Muire gan Smál, Convent of Mercy, Roscommon. This game is scheduled for next Thursday, February 4 at 1pm in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore Town.
