PRESENTATION SECONDARY SCHOOL, KILKENNY came from behind to see off the challenge of Ulster Champions Carndonagh Community School in Oriel Park, Dundalk this afternoon (Thursday, March 6).
Kilkenny made a positive start to proceedings with Meadhbh Doherty forcing a brilliant stop from Carn netminder Imogen McCallion after six minutes while ten minutes later, team-mate Kate Ryan hit the post for the Cats.
However it was Carndonagh who made the most of their chances as Orla WARD ran onto a fabulous through ball from Maeve Doherty to lob the onrushing keeper at the edge of the box.
Fergal Buchanan’s team lead 1-0 at the break.
It didn’t take Kilkenny long to equalise as the sides were level eight minutes into the restart when Captain Olivia DUNPHY saw her corner kick sneak in at the near post, one apiece.
Presentation Secondary School took the lead 15 minutes from time when Meadhbh DOHERTY latched onto a long ball from the impressive substitute Kate Dalton to finish smartly from six yards out.
Unfortunately for Carndonagh they couldn’t break down the Kilkenny defence and ultimately their Cup run came to a disappointing end despite the huge promise displayed in the game.
The hugely successful Leinster Champions have already secured the Senior Girls National Cup and will be looking to add the Junior crown to their trophy cabinet this season.
The squad will now face Presentation College, Athenry who defeated Scoil Mhuire Greenhill 2-1 on Tuesday in Limerick. The FAI Schools Junior Girls National Cup Final is scheduled for Athlone Town AFC on Wednesday, March 19 (1.0).
