The University of Limerick was the setting for the Munster First Year Futsal Finals:
The boys section was represented by High School Clonmel (Tipperary), Ennistymon CBS (Clare) De La Salle (Waterford), Colaiste Mhuire (Limerick) and Presentation Brothers (Cork):
Unfortunately, Killorglin Community College in Kerry was unable to participate in both the boys and girls event:
On duty for the girl’s were Presentation College (Tipperary), St: Flannan’s College (Clare), St: Augustine’s College (Waterford) and Colaiste Mhuire (Limerick):
The proceedings commenced with De La Salle kicking off against High School Clonmel in the boys section: This game proved to be a close encounter with High School Clonmel winning 3/2:
High School Clonmel had further victories over Ennistmon CBS and Colaiste Mhuire while drawing level with Presentation Cork:
De La Salle could not improve their performance and suffered further defeats against Ennistymon, Presentation and Colaiste Mhuire:
Colaiste Mhuire had a 2/0 win against Ennistymon and drew 2/2 with Presentation Cork:
As the points were tallied from the day’s events, the final saw Presentation Brothers Cork up against High School Clonmel:
The schools provided the ultimate finale with only a single goal coming for High School Clonmel in the second half proving the decider in this well matched encounter:
The girls section proved highly competitive with amass of goals scored throughout the day:
Presentation College had two victories against Colaiste Mhuire, two 1/1 draws against St: Augustine’s of Waterford and drew and lost against St: Flannan’s College in their double headers:
St: Flannan’s College, Ennis had six consecutive victories in the competition:
The girls from Ennis scored a total of 19 goals in the competition with the vital 20th goal coming in the final proving the crucial one in a closely fought win against a disappointed but remarkable Presentation College:
FAI Schools International stars, Ian Storan and Jason Hughes were on hand to present the trophies to St Flannan’s College of Ennis (girls) and High School Clonmel (boys):
