Double celebrations for Cork & Tipp as Clare take fifth spot
Sean Choill All Weather in CORBALLY, LIMERICK was the host venue for the Aviva Health FAI Primary School 5’s Munster Finals on Wednesday last (May 8)
The event saw approximately 16,000 children participate last year: The competition has been running since the mid 1990’s, the event is more popular than ever with 913 schools involved in 2012:
The Aviva Health FAI Primary School 5’s is the biggest and best competition in the 2013 Primary Schools Soccer Calendar: There are 5 divisions to suit all school sizes: While Aviva Health and FAI Schools encourage boys and girls to play on the same team, there is also a separate competition for girls’ schools: A number of teams can represent one school depending on the size of their student body, giving more children the chance to develop their skills in a safe, child centred and exciting environment:
30 Schools from Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford participated in the Provincial decider this season: Wet and windy conditions did not deter from the football as the young players served up some excellent football throughout the day:
The ‘A’ Section for small schools was closely contested with Rahan NS, Ballyneale, Croagh and Kilmaley all in contention following the group stages: Ballyheale defeated Rahan by a single goal to book their place in the final alongside Croagh who defeated Kilmaley 3/1 in their penultimate fixture:
Ballyheale had a solid performance against Croagh in the crunch encounter, with the Tipperary men capturing the title for 2013 with a comprehensive 4/1 score line
The ‘B’ Section for medium schools saw Scoil Iosagain, Aghada NS in Cork progress to the next stage with an incredible goal tally of 17: The runners up who impressed through the group stages was Tipperary’s Scoil Eoin Naofa:
The ‘C’ Section for large schools went to Cork School St: Columba’s NS: The Douglas outfit were consistent throughout the campaign and were victories over last year’s runners up St: Declan’s who secured a silver medal for their splendid efforts
St: Joseph’s NS, Miltown Malbay claimed the Girls ‘A’ Section following a victory over the stylish Knockskeagh team from Cork:
St: Mary’s Convent Primary, Tipperary advanced to the National Finals in the Girls ‘B’ Section having secured victories over St: Oliver’s and Ennis NS in their group stages: St: Ursula’s put up a brave fight in the semi final fixture but went down 3/0 to the brilliant Tipperary side as St: Joseph’s were also beaten in the finale
Ms Anne Doran, Business Development Manager, Aviva Health Insurance was in attendance to present the winning teams with their respective medals and Cups:
Thanks to the support of Aviva Health, the competition will reach a sensational conclusion for the Schools involved as the National Finals will take place in the magnificent surrounds of the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Saturday, May 25: The event will be a family fun day focused on providing participants and spectators alike with huge excitement and entertainment, making it a day to remember for all involved:
Aviva’s sponsorship of the Primary School 5’s sees the expansion of their partnership with the football family: At present, Aviva support the FAI Club of the Month and the Soccer Sisters programme:
Aviva Health are delighted to be associated with this competition as it provides an opportunity for primary school boys and girls to participate in a team sport that creates friendships, confidence and most importantly improves their overall fitness in a fun and enjoyable manner: Aviva Health wish all participating teams the very best of luck in the Finals: Enjoy the Aviva experience:
