The Limerick Xtra/vision FAI Schools 5-a-side Finals took place over a number of different dates before and after Easter: This year there were 3 Sections which included Limerick East, Limerick West and Limerick City:
Venues included Corbally United, Rathkeale and Sean Choill Corbally where 8 pitches were on the go all day with some super football from the various girls and boys groups games: Many of the group winners were decided on goal difference showing the high standards of schools on display:
Limerick “C” Boys Section was decided in one day in Corbally United, 16 teams from 8 schools fought it out in great style: The final came down to Monaleen v St Pauls who were back to reclaim their ticket to the Munster Finals: St Pauls NS won in a very close match:
All schools taking part in the Girls “A” Section for small schools were whittled down to Granagh, Donoghmore and Killinaure who played a round robin: Each team won a match and Granagh came through on goal difference:
The Boys “A” Section County Winners were Broadford NS who have a tremendous record in this competition: Broadford National School last captured the Munster title two years ago and even snatched runners up place in the All Ireland Finals that year:
Bruff National School won the Girls “B” Section this year and are back again to contest the Provincial honours: Their name was last etched on the Munster trophy in 2008 and they continued their fine performances with a splendid third place finish in the All Ireland Finals:
In the Boys “B” Section competition Roxborough NS beat Abbeyfeale and Tineteriffe to win a hotly contested Limerick Final, with some superb goals along the way:
The Limerick winners will be fighting it out on Wednesday with schools from Kerry, Tipperary, Cork, Clare and Waterford in order to claim the coveted Munster title at the RSC in Waterford: More importantly, Provincial success could lead to even more fun filled excitement as the respective schools book their place in the National Finals later in the month:
