St. Aidan’s Comprehensive School, Cootehill 0-2 Glenamaddy Community School

Edie Kilmartin (6), Charlotte Collins (13)

Two first half goals from Glenamaddy Community School was enough to see past Ulster Champions St. Aidan’s Comprehensive School, Cootehill in an entertaining encounter in Longford Town FC yesterday afternoon (September 10).

The deferred Cup competition will see both the First Year ‘B’ Girls and Boys National Semi Finals and Finals played off in the next few weeks.

Glenamaddy started the clash without the influential Ruby McGuire who sustained a knee injury but was bolstered by the fact that six of the starting eleven were involved with the Minor ‘B’ squad that captured the National title back in May.

The Galway side took the lead after six minutes when Edie KILMARTIN slipped the ball past Hannah Sherlock in the Cootehill goal.

Seven minutes later, their advantage was doubled as Charlotte COLLINS connected superbly with a Michelle Mulryan free kick to make it 2-0.

Midway through the first half, St. Aidan’s had a brilliant chance to grab one back as Grace Sherlock’s effort hit the woodwork with a well executed set piece from 25 yards out.

John Kennedy’s side enjoyed the two goal cushion at the interval.

It was an even game in the second period with Charlotte Collins having a great opportunity to extend the Glenamaddy lead but her effort came agonisingly off the crossbar on 36 minutes.

St. Aidan’s had a goal ruled for off-side in the dying minutes of the game as the Glenamaddy side did just enough to see them advance to the FAI Schools First Year ‘B’ Girls National Cup Final.

The Galway school will await the winners of the other semi final as Coláiste Éamann Ris, Cork City (Deerpark CBS) entertain Ramsgrange Community School in Dungarvan United FC tomorrow, Thursday (1.0)

The National Cup Final is down for contention for Wednesday, September 25 (1.0)
