The North Leinster qualifiers of the FAI Schools 5-a-side competition for Primary Schools will take place on Wednesday next, May 11 at the MDL Grounds, Trim Road, Navan:
Schools have come through their relevant County events and now advance to the second stage of qualifiers for a place in the Leinster Finals on May 19:
The event will see schools from Louth, Meath, Longford and Westmeath participate in the North Leinster Regional FINALS with 20 schools amounting to 160 participants taking part in the day/long event:
There are 5 divisions to suit all school sizes: While FAI Schools encourage boys and girls to play on the same team, there is also a separate competition for girls’ schools: A number of teams can represent one school depending on the size of their student body, giving more children the chance to develop their skills in a safe, child centered and exciting environment:
The event has proved very popular in recent years with participating schools advancing to the Leinster Finals if they taste success in Navan on Wednesday: Some of these schools have even proved to be immensely successful when reaching National level:
Scoil Mhuire, Newtownforbes were All Ireland runners up in 2010 in the Girls “B” Section and will be competing in the same category this year: The girls will be hoping that their performances will merit another appearance at National level as they take on schools such as St: Joseph’s NS, Dundalk, Trim’s St: Mary’s and Mullingar’s St: Colman’s in an exciting mix of talent for their section:
Dundalk’s St: Joseph’s NS have seen their name etched into the silverware in 2006 when their boy’s team competed in the “C” Section for large schools: The Saints won not only a Leinster medal but the coveted All Ireland title that year as the girls go in search of the glory this time around:
Westmeath’s Milltown NS will be looking to both their boys and girls teams are they qualified in both the “A” Section and Girls “A” Section which caters for the smaller schools in the senior cycle of Primary School:
The “A” Section will see a closely contested field with St: Kevin’s, Cortown, Milltown and Fermoyle battling it out for the honours:
Likewise the Girls “A” Section has Colehill, Ardaghy, Gaelscoil na Boinne, Trim and Milltown all in the mix for Regional success: The Trim Gaelscoil had a close call in their County event with Captain Karley Leavey scoring the first goal of the final game but Sorcha Ní Loinisigh was the hero of the day scrapping through with a golden goal with only minutes to spare for Kathy Butler’s side to progress against Gaelscoil Navan:
Cortown NS captured their first Meath title this year having come runners up last season: The inform School will be looking to Captain Cormac Lindsay, Oisin Smith and Jack O’Keeffe to keep their dreams alive and fancy another outing next week if they can progress through the Regional qualifiers:
Seamus Thorpe’s Dangan NS will be well watched by Dunleer’s St: Patrick’s NS, Meview and Kilpatrick as the medium schools category will be an entertaining affair:
St: Oliver’s NS, Blackrock, St: Colmcille’s Kells,Killoe NS and Mullingar’s St: Mary’s will do battle in the “C” Section for large schools
Last season, Meath had the upper hand in the REGIONAL FINALS as all 3 boy’s teams from
Boyerstown, Cannistown & Dunboyne made it a hat/trick of successes for the Royal County when overcoming their counterparts:
Meanwhile two Mullingar schools Loughegar and Gaelslcoil an Mhuilinn advanced in the two sections for girls giving WESTMEATH the bragging rights:
WHO will it be this time around as games kick off at 11:30am in Navan: Best of luck to all participating teams this year and here’s to an enjoyable outing for ALL 20 schools:
