Ireland come up short against Scots

BOB DOCHERTY CUP 2011

Republic of Ireland 2-3 Scotland

THE REPUBLIC of Ireland's Under 15 Girls Schools side face a tough task to defend their Bob Docherty Cup crown after they were beaten 3-2 by Scotland on day two in Cardiff:

The girls in green went into the game in confident mood following the 3-1 defeat of hosts Wales 24 hours earlier but were undone by three quick/fire goals inside 17 minutes yesterday (April 13):

The Scots had lost to Northern Ireland a day earlier but came flying out of the traps and a Georgie Rafferty free kick on seven minutes was followed up three minutes later by a Carla Jackson strike:

Lizzir Arnott made it three soon after with a header from a corner and it took Ireland until just before half/time to respond when Amber Barrett broke free to score her third goal in two days:

Despite a gallant second/half effort, lead by a superb performance from substitute Aisling Frawley, and another goal late on from Barrett, Jason Carey's side were unable to level the scores:

They now face Northern Ireland in the final game of tournament today, requiring a three/goal win, and a less/convincing win from Scotland in their game with Wales, to keep the trophy:

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Amy Corcoran; Eimear Lafferty, Nadine Crawford, Ciara McNamara, Michelle O’Regan, Amy O’Connor (Capt), Katie Carter, Ciara Rossiter, Rebekah Carroll, Lisa Casserly, Amber Barrett:

Subs used: Cadhla Gillen, Avril Brierley, Mary Tyrell, Aisling Frawley:
