Ireland's top international football stars were honoured at the 22nd Three FAI International Football Awards which took place at RTÉ studios, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 on Sunday last (February 26)
Among the recipients was FAI Schools star HUGH DOUGLAS, who is a past pupil of St: Brendan’s College in Bray: Douglas was awarded the FAI’s U18 International Schools Player of the Year accolade
His performance last season saw him capture the prestigious award with some solid performances in the green shirt: The 6’ 1” defender played a pivotal role in the successes of the Irish team during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons in which he was involved: The Bray native scored three goals for the Republic of Ireland Schools team during that time:
His physical presence in the park was most prominent in their draw away to Scotland giving Ireland the lead before the Scots equalised late on: He also scored against the same opposition twelve months previously in Finn Park, Ballybofey when the Irish won 5/2 on home soil and his first Irish goal was scored against the Kiwi’s with a splendid header at the back post in Ballyouster United FC:
Douglas played his club football with Belvedere FC during those days but has since moved on to have a successful career with UCD U19’s:
Congratulations was also extended to the other nominees, Stephen Chambers (St: Fintan’s High School, Sutton) and Niall Cooney (Templeogue College):
