Press Release: Sunday, March 6, 2016

England 1-0 Republic of Ireland

Jody Hutton (35)

A solitary goal from Jody Hutton five minutes into the restart was enough for Williams’ side to claim yet another victory against the Irish.

The game was played in very blustery conditions on the all-weather facility at Egerton FC. It was scoreless as the teams went into the dressing rooms at half time. The Irish enjoying plenty of possession in the opening 30 minutes but just couldn’t convert to any real danger.

Counihan’s side will dust themselves off following this minor setback and finalise preparations for their International Tournament on April 1. The squad will meet up again in Dublin on March 19 for their final session ahead of the Bob Docherty Tournament which sees them in a grouping with hosts Wales (‘01) and Northern Ireland.

England are placed in the other group with Wales (‘02) and Scotland. The four day tournament will be a fantastic test for the Irish girls and one they should relish as Dragon Park and Newport Stadium host the event. Scotland are reigning Champions so it will be game on for the English when they face them on the final game of the group stages.
