Under 15 Girls’ International Friendly
Saturday, March 2, 2024
THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND SCHOOLS will travel to Newforge Sports Complex in Belfast tomorrow, Sunday, March 3 to take on Northern Ireland in an International Friendly (KO 1pm)
The Schools select have enjoyed a few friendly matches against WNL Under 17 club teams recently, but this will be the first International test for the young scholars.
Head Coach Richard Berkeley (Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh) has named twenty players for this clash as he looks to trim his squad to 18 for the Bob Docherty Cup at the end of the month.
Last season Madison McGuane (Ardscoil Mhuire, Corbally) missed out on this fixture due to concussion, but she will be fit for tomorrow’s outing and will surely impress. The likes of Kaitlyn Delahunty (Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré) and Keelin Comiskey (St. Mac Dara’s Community College, Templeogue) have further International experience having lined out for the Irish Under 16s in recent times so hopefully this trio can marshal the troops for this important test.
The Head Coach welcomes the return of Ciara Milton (St. Leo’s College, Carlow). The youngster missed out on several assessments having sustained an injury for Leinster at the Interprovincial Tournament in November.
When the teams met twelve months ago, it ended in a one all draw in the AUL Complex, Dublin. Mounthawk Community School, Tralee pupil Laura FALVEY opened the scoring for the hosts with just 12 minutes on the clock. However, this was cancelled out by Kayla Ann CLAYTON 12 minutes later as she slotted past Fanning at the near post.
It’s a massive occasion for the players involved and they’ll be looking to secure a spot in the final squad for the International tournament in Athlone.
