Skerries Community College, Dublin 1 - 0 Castletroy College, Limerick
A top class finish from Lyndsey Davey gave Skerries Community College, Dublin victory in the FAI Schools Senior Girls Cup final at Buckley Park, Kilkenny yesterday (Wednesday):
The striker wasted little time in giving her side the lead, scoring after two minutes: Racing on to a long ball, Davey showed a cool head to round goalkeeper before sliding an angled shot into the empty net:
Castletroy, appearing in their fourth successive final, had no answer to the threat of Davey: Led by a powerful display from Irish international midfielder Niamh Mulcahy, the Limerick side almost got back into the game when Sinead Cremin pounced on a stray back/pass in the 23rd minute, but Skerries netminder Aisling Dyer bravely dived at the striker's feet to turn the ball out for a corner:
Davey almost doubled her side's lead when her 24th minute shot was half/stopped by goalkeeper Deirdre Cremin, but defender Rachael Hogan was on hand to clear the ball off the line:
Skerries stayed in control for the second half, and had a number of chances to increase their winning margin: Substitute Sinead O'Mahony had the best of these when she connected with a sweetly struck 70th minute half/volley, but Deirdre Cremin made a terrific one/handed save:
