Leah Victoria Park home to Tullamore Town FC will host the Xtra/vision FAI Schools 5-a-side National Finals this Wednesday, 26 May 2010 (12pm – 3:30pm):
More than 14,000 children from all over Ireland participated in this, the biggest and best competition in the 2010 Primary Schools Soccer Calendar: Schools battle it out in county qualifiers nationwide before advancing firstly to regional finals and then to provincial deciders:
After three months of competition the final twenty schools advance from their provincial finals to the ultimate stage, the National Finals: There are five sections to cater from including “A” Schools and Girls “A” Schools for small sized schools: Medium sized schools are catered for under the “B” Schools and Girls “B” Schools sections and finally “C” Schools accommodate the large schools section:
Tom Bolger, Chairman of FAI Schools, stated, “This is our first year with title sponsors Xtra/vision and the competition is growing from strength to strength: FAI Schools must pay tribute to the phenomenal work carried out at grassroots level by the Provincial Co/ordinators and Regional Development Officers in ensuring that the event is even more popular than ever before”:
Ciara Moore, Marketing Manager with Xtra/vision stated: “We are very pleased to be associated with the FAI Schools 5-a-side competition: It is a great opportunity for boys and girls to participate in this national sporting event: The competition is pivotal in promoting teamwork at such a young age and provides fun and entertainment for friends and family alike: We wish all participating Schools the very best of luck in the All Ireland Finals“:
The National Finals will see 160 participants from all corners of the country compete: An impressive 14 counties will be involved in this year’s National Finals: Schools from Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Limerick, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Donegal, Cavan, Kilkenny, Offaly, Dublin, Longford and Wexford will fight it out in their respective categories for the top prize of being crowned All Ireland Champions: Everyone’s a winner in this competition with participants receiving a Xtra/vision goodie bag, full soccer kit and commemorative medal for their participation in this year’s National Finals:
Three of this year’s participating schools qualified last season and will be hoping that their experience will merit more success: Interesting two of the three Schools will be paired in the same division with Scoil Mhuire, Clarinbridge and St: Mary’s NS, Virginia meeting in the Girls “B” Section: Assisting Virginia’s bid for glory is the return of Captain Amy Gaynor while Clarinbridge have Niamh Murphy, Ciara Murphy and Saoirse Burke all making a welcome return: Clarinbridge claimed third spot while Virginia came a respectable fourth in 2009: It will be interesting to see how the Schools fair this year:
The “C” Schools Section will be one to watch out for as St: Joseph’s NS, Gorey are back in contention for All Ireland success: The School came runners up last season in their division and have the added advantage of having three youngster return namely Daniel Brennan, Conor Levingston and Paul Murphy:
Donegal has the honour of being the biggest county represented this year with a total of four schools competing for glory: The Ulster qualifiers saw two Schools from Donegal and two Schools from Inishowen capture Provincial crowns while Cavan was the other County to progress: Schools from Gweedore, Moville, Carndonagh and Letterkenny will fly the flag for Donegal:
Mayo, Galway and Limerick will share the spoils with two schools each competing at National level: Mayo has Barnacarroll Boys and Craggagh Girls participating while Galway will see Clarinbridge and Scoil Chatriona, Renmore in both the boys and girls large School categories: Limerick has 2008 qualifiers Scoil Dean Cussen, Bruff and Scoil Mhuire, Broadford in the “A” Schools and Girls “B” Schools sections:
This leaves Roscommon, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Cavan, Kilkenny, Offaly Dublin, Longford and Wexford with one school each, holding the mantel for their respective County:
Last year’s competition was highly entertaining with Mayo making the headlines with Derrywash NS and St Patrick’s NS, Castlebar winning All Ireland titles, while Powertstown NS, Clonmel Tipperary, Gaelscoil Inbhear Mor, Wicklow and debutants Bennekerry NS, Carlow all celebrated their magificient National awards: Who will make the headlines this year::: only time will tell:::
