Horgan’s Schools squad ready for Northern encounter

THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND U18 SCHOOLS squad will kick off their Centenary Shield campaign against Northern Ireland at the Riverside Stadium, home of Institute FC, Derry on Friday night, March 15 (7:00pm):

Ollie Horgan who teaches at St: Eunan’s College, Letterkenny is looking forward to his second season in charge: Horgan made a promising start as Manager with a 1/0 win against the North in Pike Rovers twelve months ago:  The Republic of Ireland will be hoping to replicate this success as they make the short journey to Derry at the end of the week:

Horgan’s management team see’s the introduction of Paddy O’Reilly, Trinity Comprehensive School, Ballymun as Assistant Manager in the absence of veteran Hugh Colhoun while the experienced Dave Archbold of Palmerstown Community School remains as Coach:

There are plenty of talented youngsters included in the squad this season: Comeragh College pupil Jack Doherty and St: Macartan’s student Fearghal McMahon impressed last season and have been drafted into the squad for the second consecutive season: Another boost for the Schools squad is the inclusion of Jake Dykes, Summerhill College and Alan Browne, Nagle Community College who starred in the home based International under Paul Doolin last month in Bangor: Both players have impressed with their Schools in recent weeks with Browne picking up an All Ireland winners medal in the John Murphy Cup while Dykes will feature in the Dr: Tony O’Neill All Ireland Cup Final next week:

Ollie Horgan’s opposition has made a positive start to their season with Bob Ramsey’s side picking up a vital point away from home as they drew 1/1 with England last Friday night: The North’s first outing resulted in a 2/1 victory at home to Scotland last month which leaves them top of the league table on four points:  This is Ramsey’s last season in charge and he will be looking for a win on home soil to keep his title ambitions on track while Horgan will be looking to upset the odds:
