Kelly set piece bags it for the bish
Bank of Ireland FAI Schools Tom Ticher National Cup Semi Final
Monday, April 23, 2018
St. Joseph’s College, Galway 1-0 Mount Sion CBS SS
Colin Kelly (9)
A superb set piece from Colin Kelly nine minutes in was the only difference between Mount Sion CBS Secondary School and St. Joseph’s College in Pike Rovers FC last Wednesday (April 18).
With a strong breeze in favour of the Galway men in the first forty, it was Kelly that made the most of it when they were awarded a free kick on the right wing. The talisman placed the ball effortlessly into the top corner leaving Jack Byrne with no chance.
With the momentum now in St. Joseph’s favour, Charlie Concannon saw his rocket sail over the upright twenty three minutes in.
Mount Sion responded five minutes later through Abel Alabi’s attempt on target but goalkeeper Sam O’Gorman was equal to the challenge and saved well.
Captain Alex Phelan was fantastic for the Waterford side but he was well marked and failed to make an impression on the narrow score-line
St. Joseph’s weathered a late onslaught from Jamie Brazil and Timi Sobowale to ensure the clean sheet and advance to yet another Cup Final.
The Bish captured the Minor title two weeks ago and will now line out against St. Mary’s CBS, Enniscorthy in the Bank of Ireland FAI Schools Tom Ticher Junior Cup Final which is scheduled to take place in Home Farm FC on Wednesday, May 2 (KO 1pm).
