NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK Carrigtwohill Community College narrowly defeated newbies Dunmore Community School one-nil in Fairview Rangers last Tuesday (March 14) courtesy of the only goal of the game from Kinga Prajsnar.
Clodagh Dorgan had a few half-chances for Carrigtwohill early in the first half but they had to withstand the Dunmore onslaught for much of the game.
Dunmore’s Eva Daly had a gilt edge opportunity to break the deadlock on 25 minutes but her effort hit the side-netting after some good build-up play by Megan Healy.
A few moments later, Erika Diskin had another great chance for Dunmore only for the ball to trial wide of the post.
While Dunmore enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half, it was Carrigtwohill who came out the stronger in the second period.
The breakthrough moment came three minutes from time when Kinga PRAJSNAR’S long range effort from 20 yards out hit the back of the net. Good link up play from Maedhbh Carroll and Clodagh Dorgan ensure the decisive through ball to the goal-scorer.
Dunmore nearly equalised from the restart as the impressive Erika Diskin was denied by some brave goalkeeping by Lily Burke Curley ensured her side’s advancement in the competition.
The Cork side await the winners of the other semi-final which sees Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair face off against St. Kilian’s DSD, Clonskeagh. The fixture will take place next Thursday, March 23 in Monaghan.
