Coláiste Iósaef Community College, Kilmallock 6-0 CBS New Ross

Lillian Hogan (13, 42), Abbey Walsh (22,  51, 67), Annaliese Hogan (52)

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK Coláiste Iósaef Community College pulled off the ultimate display to be crowned FAI Schools Junior ‘B’ Girls National Cup Champions following a stunning performance in Clonmel Celtic yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, March 1)

The empathic outing left a clean sheet for the Munster Champions and the previously impressive CBS New Ross who racked up seven goals in their last two cup ties were left scoreless. Nora Purcell who scored a hat-trick in the semi-final against Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair and powerhouse Emma Rossiter were left frustrated for much of the game.

Emma Cuddihy’s crew turned on the style with a hat-trick from Treaty United Under 17 star Abbey Walsh, a brace from Captain Lillian Hogan and her twin sister Annaliese added to her tally of two assists by netting herself.

A well rounded performance which saw the Kilmallock school open the scoring with 13 minutes played as Lillian HOGAN latched onto a corner from Annaliese Hogan to shoot past the hardworking Ellie O’Connell.

Their lead was doubled nine minutes later through Abbey WALSH with a powerful strike that O’Connell just couldn’t do anything about as Annaliese turned supplier yet again.

Coláiste Iósaef lead 2-0 at the break.

The 2022 Champions, CBS New Ross were always a second half team, having come back from a 3-0 deficit against Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair to win out 4-3 in the end so we were expecting a lively encounter in the second half.

However the comeback was dashed slightly when Lillian HOGAN popped up for her second and Kilmallock’s third of the afternoon seven minutes into the restart.

New Ross just had no response for the onslaught as Abbey WALSH grabbed her brace and Coláiste Iósaef’s fourth on 51 minutes and Annalise HOGAN netted their fifth a minute later.

WALSH completed her hat-trick three minutes from time to leave a comprehensive result against a determined CBS New Ross who were well served by Captain Rossiter, Gaffney, Purcell and Wallace.

The 2023 Junior ‘B’ Girls National title will be added to the Senior ‘B’ crown which Coláiste Iósaef earned back in 2011.

Similar to CBS New Ross, the Kilmallock girls will be looking to return next season to defend their provincial and national honours.
