Wednesday, May 10, 2023
Marist College, Athlone 2-0 Carndonagh Community School
Dylan Dennehy (47 pen), Dan Costello (58)
Marist College, Athlone’s second half brace was enough to see off the challenge of Carndonagh Community School in the FAI Schools Minor Boys National Cup Semi Final last Friday (May 5) in Monaghan United FC.
The game was well posed with both teams playing some exceptional football in the first period but the game remained scoreless at the interval.
The opening goal came twelve minutes into the restart when Dylan DENNEHY converted from the penalty spot.
Dan COSTELLO grabbed Marist second of the afternoon eleven minutes later with a sublime effort to leave Douglas with no chance.
The Donegal pupils created alot of goal scoring chances late on but couldn't convert. The best of these opportunities coming from Billy Hume as he forced an excellent save from Athlone’s Jimmy Walshe three minutes from time.
Marist game management ensured they ran down the clock at every opportunity to advance to this season’s Cup decider. They’ll meet Christian Brothers College, Cork in the showpiece which takes place on Friday, May 12 in Fairview Rangers AFC, Limerick (1.0).
