THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND U18 SCHOOLS squad will travel to Scotland today (Tuesday, March 26) ahead of their second Centenary Shield outing against Scotland at Fraserburgh, Aberdeen tomorrow night (Wednesday, March 27)
Horgan was disappointed not to secure a point from their opening game against the North a fortnight ago as a Jonathan McMurray goal gave the hosts a commanding lead in the Shield campaign: Bob Ramsey’s side are now top of the leader board with 7 points having played England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, resulting in 2 wins, 1 draw:
The Republic of Ireland has yet to find their groove but Horgan will have a full accompaniment to choose from having Terenure student Seán Coyne return to the side for this must win encounter:
The Scots will be eager to gain some much needed points having played two games thus far: They suffered the agony of conceding two late goals to lose to Northern Ireland in a game they should have won; whilst Wales put two unanswered goals past the tartan brigade two weeks ago, leaving Scotland with a mountain to climb: It will be a difficult task for the visitors as Scotland look to restore some pride with a win on home soil:
The only injury concern for Horgan’s outfit was De La Salle star Patrick Fitzgerald: The youngster brushes off a minor head injury he sustained in the Northern Ireland encounter to lead out the team tomorrow night:
These two sides have played each other 13 times with the Republic of Ireland winning on 6 occasions, Scotland twice whilst there have been 5 drawn games, the last of which was a 1/1 result last season in Waterford:
Following this game, the Republic of Ireland’s penultimate game will see the visit of Wales to the Oscar Traynor Centre, Coolock on Friday, April 5: The Shield campaign will reach a conclusion when England travel to Turner’s Cross Stadium, Cork City FC on Friday, April 26: Both games kick off at 7pm
