Scoil Mhuire SS, Buncrana 4/0 Presentation College, Headford
Two goals in each half was enough for Scoil Mhuire to see off Presentation College, Headford in IT Sligo today in a pulsating encounter:
Georgie Kelly netted twice, his first coming from the penalty spot while his second was a wonderful strike from close range leaving Rory Conlon with no chance
Headford’s Padraig Cunningham was denied a penalty at the opposite end midway through the first half as match official Rolf Zoschke waved play on following a collision with Buncrana keeper Caolan McGonagle
James O’Brien was linking well with Cathal Newell for short periods of the game but the final ball failed to materialise into anything special to trouble the Buncrana defence who were well marshalled by John Campbell and Keelan Dillon
Cathal Newell scorched a great opportunity for the Galway lads as he latched onto a Michael Devaney corner kick which deserved more as Newell’s free header didn’t spark too much of a test for the Buncrana net minder following the restart
Headford’s woes were damaged beyond repair as Paul McDermott picked up Buncrana’s third of the afternoon ten minutes in
Dara Keane hit the crossbar for Headford while Padraig Cunningham went agonising close for the Connacht Champions as they struggled to get a foothold on proceedings in the second half:
The ever present Ryan Varma secured the spoils for Will O’Connor’s men with an excellent strike from distance for Scoil Mhuire’s fourth of the afternoon late on
The Ulster stars Scoil Mhuire now await the winners of the other semi final fixture which sees De La Salle College, Waterford against Presentation College, Bray on Thursday afternoon: The All Ireland Final is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10:
