Senior Boys All Ireland Semi Final
CBS Limerick Reign Supreme
CBS Sexton St. Limerick 3
St. Mary’s College, Galway 1
Limerick CBS scored a hat trick of goals in Athlone to secure a place in the Umbro Senior Boys Cup Final.
Both teams were slow to start as the first half remained scoreless. St. Mary’s started the second half well with some half chances from Cheevers and Grant. It wasn’t long before CBS found their tempo. A quick ball from defence found Clarke in space at midfield. He played an excellent ball into Barry in the six yard line. The St. Mary’s keeper was first to react and attempted to catch the ball under pressure only to spill it at the feet of McMarlow who finished neatly, to open the scoring in the 51st minute.
Molyneaux’s men sustained possession and pressed forward at every opportunity. This pressure was rewarded in the 57th minute when Keeper Coughlan experienced a lack of concentration in the goal mouth which led to the ball ending up in the back of the net to make it 2 – 0.
A snap shot on goal from Cheevers on the 70th minutes brought St. Mary’s back into the game with the score at 2 – 1. Holland was unlucky not to equalise when his shot sailed over the bar in the 74th minute.
Kevin Barry sealed victory for the Limerick lads in the 80th minute when he outwitted the Galway defence and side stepped the keeper to tap in for Limerick’s third.
