The Monaghan FUTSAL Finals were held on Thursday last November 4 in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross.
The event once again proved to be a huge success, with competitions held for first year boys and girls. Both competitions were closely and sportingly contested and were played in a round robin system.
The boys event was contested by Largy College Clones, Inver College Carrickmacross and The Patrician High School. The Patrician High School proved victorious on the day with two wins, defeating Inver College on a 4-2 scoreline and Largy College 5-1, with goalkeeper Ronan Mc Donald outstanding in both games.
The girls competition was a much closer affair with Inver College, Largy College and St Louis Secondary School Monaghan town as the participants. In the first game Largy College defeated Inver College on a close fought 3-2 scoreline. St Louis Monaghan then accounted for Inver College 5-2. The last game which proved to be a cracking match in which St Louis and Largy College played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, thus meaning that St Louis Monaghan were crowned champions for the first time on goal difference. Largy College had the consolation of having the outstanding player of the competition in Megan McElvaney.
Both winners will now go forward to represent Co Monaghan in the Ulster Finals, which are to be held on Tuesday November 16.
