FAI Schools First Year Boys National Cup Semi Final (Under 14, Large Schools)

Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana 1-0 St. Benildus College, Stillorgan
Terence Doherty (11)
A solitary goal courtesy of Scoil Mhuire Captain Terence DOHERTY was enough to see his side overcome a tenacious St. Benildus College in Monaghan United FC this afternoon (May 4).
Both sides had chances early on with Stillorgan’s Ben Mahon testing Joshua McCann while Cian Murphy forced Oisin Twomey into a good save.
The only goal of the game came eleven minutes in when Tadgh McDaid played a delighted high ball into the path of Doherty who chipped the onrushing keeper to slot into an empty net.
Terence Doherty had another great opportunity to double his tally ten minutes from the break but his strike drifted wide of the target.
Mahon, Lynch and Robinson were all performing well for the Dublin outfit but they couldn’t penetrate the Buncrana defence.
Scoil Mhuire held onto the narrow lead at the interval despite Benildus’ best efforts.
It was much of the same in the second period with Ben Mahon covering a lot of ground.
Conor McClay and Cian Murphy were causing concern for Twomey but the keeper did well to deny the deadly duo.
Ronan Mailey came close while Terence Doherty’s header from a corner sailed off the crossbar in the dying minutes of the game.
Benildus went close through Jack Carr late on but Scoil Mhuire held on for the slender victory.
The Ulster Champions will now play St. Francis College, Rochestown in the showpiece Cup Final which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 (1.0). Venue to be confirmed.
