The Inishowen Section of the Ulster Futsal Competition for boys and girls was held in the Buncrana Youth Club on Friday 4 December with the winners progressing to the Ulster Finals on the 20 January in Carrickmacross:

This was the first of hopefully many years of this competition and with all games being played in a very sporting manner and with no shortage of ability the future looks bright:

The Girls Section was on a knife edge until the very last moment with Moville A equalizing against their school mates Moville B with two minutes to go and thus beating them and Carndonagh Community School on goal difference:

With Moville A going into the final game needing only a draw they got a real shock against their school mates and indeed can consider themselves fortunate to progress with a big thanks going to their goalkeeper for a fantastic save in the dying moments which turned out to be the key moment in the game:

Carndonagh also showed that they are more than capable of competing and indeed had their chances to win all of their games but can feel proud of going through all their games undefeated:

The Boys Section was no less exciting and was all up for grabs until Scoil Mhuire scored the winning goal with 20 seconds remaining:

Both they and Moville had won their first two games against Carndonagh Community School and Crana College and therefore went into the final match equal on points:

Because of their superior goal difference Scoil Mhuire knew that a point would see them progress and took the lead in the first minute and for a period looked liked having a comfortable game but Moville had different ideas:

Within the space of 90 seconds Moville had scored two wonderful goals and were getting first to every loose ball and creating more chances than their opponents: Scoil Mhuire began to regroup and scored just before half time to leave it all level at the interval:

The second half was no less exciting and with chances now being created at both ends the outcome was always in doubt:

Scoil Mhuire again took the lead but within twenty seconds it was level again and it stayed that way until those last few seconds when Scoil Mhuire finally booked their place in the Ulster Finals:

FAI Development Officer Stephen McNutt who organized this pilot competition was delighted with the standard of both sections:

He thanked PJ Halinan and John McGrory of the Buncrana Youth Club for the use of their new hall: He also thanked the teachers of all the schools involved for supporting the Competition:
