The Xtra/vision FAI Schools 5-a-side Finals in Inishowen took place on Saturday (8 May) at Trawbreaga Park in Rasheney reports Martin Robins:
Thirteen schools participated in three sections and after all games were played the following schools qualified for the Ulster Finals:
Boys Section “A” – Illies
Girls Section “A” – Moville
Boys Section “B” – Carndonagh Boys
Girls Section “B” – Buncrana
Boys Section “C” – Buncrana
The glorious weather conditions added to the feast of very competitive and enjoyable football served up by the finest of Inishowen’s Primary School players:
Section “A” Boys was fought out between Illies, Cloontagh, Greencastle, Gaelscoil Bun an Phobail and Drumfries:
At the conclusion of all the games Illies emerged section winners by a single point over Cloontagh:
In Girls Section “A” Moville, Muff, Illies and Desertegney battled it out to determine who would go through to the Ulster Finals: Moville proved too strong for the other winning all three games to oust Illies into second spot:
There was a similar story in Boys Section “B” as Carn Boys dominated their games against Whitecastle, Moville and Cockhill winning all of them and topping the table ahead of Moville in second place:
All three section winners along with Buncrana in Boys “C” and Girls “B” Section now go forward to the Ulster Finals on Wednesday 19 May at Ballyare in Letterkenny:
The Inishowen Primary Schools League would like to thank Rasheney FC and in particular Peter McLaughlin for the use of facilities and preparation of the pitches: They are also grateful to the referees who assisted on the day and particularly would like to thank all the teams and their managers/teachers for the very sporting way in which they conducted themselves: It was an excellent sporting occasion enjoyed by all and the weather certainly helped!
