The Cavan FAI Schools Primary Schools 5-a-side competition took place over three days with events concluding on Friday, April 8 at Cootehill Harps FC:
7 small sided pitches were in use over the 3 days with 84 teams from 34 schools participating:
The small schools section for boys was played on Monday with 28 teams participating: The final saw Kilnaleck NS defeat Killyconnon NS 2/0 after a very exciting game:
The small schools section for girls took place on Thursday with 27 teams participating and the girl’s final went to extra time with Aughadreena NS defeating Killygarry 2/1 in another very entertaining game:
The medium schools boys and girls competitions took place on Friday with 23 boys teams and 6 girls teams participating on the day:
The boys section was won by St: Mary’s NS, Virginia who defeated last year’s winners St: Clare’s NS, Ballyjamesduff after a thrilling penalty kick shoot out by 13 goals to 12:
St: Mary’s NS, Virginia girls completed the medium schools double when they defeated St: Killian’s Mullagh in the Final of the girls section:
St: Felim’s NSCavan Town boys had 2 teams in the large schools section and will represent Cavan in the Ulster Final in the boy’s large schools section:
Tom Mohan FAI Development Officer for Cavan thanked all schools for taking part over the 3 days and wished the winning teams the best of luck in the Ulster Finals which take place at Cootehill Harps on Thursday, May 19:
Tom also thanked Cootehill Harps FC for the preparation of grounds and use of the facilities, Mary McEnroe and the Cavan Institute of Further Studies for providing referees, John Crudden, Monaghan FAI Development Officer for his assistance and the referees who assisted on Friday:
