Meath Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals

The fantastic facilities at Gormanston College played host to the Meath Post Primary Schools Futsal Event on Friday, November 4: The competition is for first year students and 16 teams from 9 schools took part in this year’s competition which once again had a very high standard indeed:

In the girls event 6 teams competed for the title which was held by St: Peters College, Dunboyne since last year: St: Olivers, Oldcastle and Ratoath Community College along with Dunboyne performed excellently but the surprise package of the day was Beaufort College, Navan who reached the final after winning 4 of their 5 group games:

Beaufort where joined in the final by Eureka Secondary School who won all 5 group games and were the firm favourites on the day: The final was a tense and tight affair and at full/time nothing could separate the sides with both defences coming out on top in a 0/0 draw: The game went to extra/time and after chances for both sides it looked as if the game was heading to penalties until Eureka captain Niamh O’Keefe struck home a stunning volley to the delighted of her team manager Leonard Noone and to secure Eureka’s second Meath title in 3 seasons:

The boys event was contested by 10 teams and the holders were also the current Leinster champions St: Peters College, Dunboyne but the holders got off to a shaky start with a 1/0 defeat to a strong St: Olivers, Oldcastle team:

In Group 1 hosts Gormanston where unfortunate to miss out on a semi/final place by 1 point and Ratoath Community College and Dunboyne B eventually took the two semi/final spots where they were joined by Dunboyne A and Oldcastle from Group 2 after they held off stiff competition from Beaufort College and Ashbourne:

In the first semi/final which was an all Dunboyne affair the A team came out on top as 3/1  winners to set/up a showdown with the skilful Ratoath team who overcame Oldcastle by 2 goals to 1 in their semi/final:

The final was an exciting end to end affair and with scores locked at 1/1 deep into the game, Dunboyne stepped up the tempo and scored to quickfire goals to stun Ratoath and the game finished 3/1 to Dunboyne who secured their second Meath title in succession:

Both teams will now represent Meath in Leinster finals in Gormanston College on November 16:
