The biggest and best competition in the 2011

Primary School Soccer Calendar

The Louth Finals of the FAI Schools 5-a-side Primary Schools competition had a pulsating finale at the JJB Soccer Dome in Dundalk on Thursday last (April 14)

Earlier preliminary rounds had already taken place in two venues the Drogheda leg was held in the Drogheda Leisure Centre and the Dundalk leg took place in the impressive JJB:

The competition caters for boys and girls with the emphasis on small sided games played on reduced sized pitches and using goals suited to the children’s size:

With both venues being indoor and the players served up a feast of football with goals galore:

The event was organised and run by FAI Regional Development Officer for Louth Mick Neville and he was given great assistance by Mark Scanlon the Regional Development Officer for Meath:

Students from both O Fiach College Dundalk and Dundalk IT refereed all of the games on both occasions and did a great job:

Paul Johnson the General Manager for Dundalk FC was fantastic as he gave every child a free ticket to the Dundalk v Sligo Rovers game and along with Dundalk FC players Stephen Maher and Jason Byrne did the presentation of the medals:

Martin Connolly Head of Youth Development did an excellent job as MC as he was badly needed with the huge numbers that turned out: An outstanding 62 teams took part in the earlier rounds and 24 took part on the final day representing 17 schools from all over Louth:

In the Girls “A” Cup Ardaghy NS from Omeath came out on top against a very good Rathcor NS on a score of 3/2 in a very tight competition:

An excellent Ardaghy girl’s advanced to the North Leinster Finals (to be held on May 11 in the MDL Grounds in Navan) by virtue of the result between the teams, that 3/2 victory to Ardaghy NS

The Boys “A” Cup was a fantastic competition whereby there were 2 groups and the winners came head to head in a brilliantly contested Final: St: Kevin’s NS from Dunleer took on Louth Village: St: Kevin’s raced into a 4/0 lead Evan Doheny hitting a great hat trick and Barry Collon hitting what proved to be the winner: The boy’s from Louth Village never gave up and had St: Kevin’s hearts in their mouths when they came back to 4/3 but despite this great comeback they just ran out of time and St Kevin’s advanced to the North Leinster Finals:

TheBoys “C“ Section  was also a very tight affair with St: Oliver’s Blackrock, St: Mary’s of Drogheda and Bay Estate from Dundalk  all involved at the top of the group, again it came down to a 3/2 win by Blackrock over Bay Estate, and Bay drawing with St Marys :

The Girls “B “ Section was a great competition but a physical St: Joseph’s side came out on top against a very good and skilful Bay Estate in the final game on a 1/0 score line with the St: Joseph’s keeper pulling off a fantastic penalty save in the final minute to get her side through:

In the Boys “B” Section St: Patrick’s from Dunleer got through following an amazing 8/7 victory over their closest rivals Dulargy, again the football in this group was top notch and played in a very sporting manner:

Congratulations to all the winners who will now represent Louth in the upcoming North Leinster Finals on May 11 in the MDL Grounds in Navan: Good luck to all!
