The Wexford First Year Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were played out on Wednesday last (November 15) in Enniscorthy:
Coláiste Bríd hosted the girls competition and was assisted by the Transition Year students
Seven schools signed up for the event with a total of eight teams participating
In Group One, the hosts Coláiste Bríd came out on top with 3 wins from 3 games against Wexford Vocational College, Meanscoil Gharman and St: Mary’s “B” respectively:
In Group Two, a similar outcome was on the cards with St: Mary’s “A” coming out with a 100% record from their 3 games with Gorey Community School, Colaiste an Atha and New Ross CBS:
The Final was a pulsating game with St: Mary’s edging it to advance to the Leinster Finals which will be held in Franciscan College, Gormanston, Co: Meath on November 22:
The boy’s competition was held in the Astro Active Centre where an equally competitive competition took place:
In Group One, the tournament went down to the wire with Gorey finishing just a single point ahead of Meanscoil Gharman with Wexford Vocational College and New Ross CBS “B” making up the final 2 places:
In Group Two, Wexford CBS showed their experience with 3 quick fire wins to guarantee their place in the final with New Ross CBS “A”, Gorey Community School “B” and Colaiste an Atha doing their utmost but falling just short:
The Final saw two previous winners of the competition in Wexford come up against each other again and the score line showed that there was very little difference between the two sides with Gorey Community School overcoming Wexford CBS on a 3/2 score line: Bitter disappointment for CBS but extreme elation for the Gorey boy’s
