The biggest and best competition in the 2012
Primary School Soccer Calendar
The Louth FAI Schools 5-a-side competitions took place in the New Dundalk Youth Centre at Oriel Park last week:
The competition caters for boys and girls with the emphasis on small sided games played on reduced sized pitches and using goals suited to the children’s size:
With the venue being indoors, the players served up a feast of football with goals galore:
80 teams took part representing 34 schools throughout the county and the competition was as tough as ever:
In the Girls “A” Cup Scoil Naomh Buithe, Dunleer came out on top against a very good Bellurgan team on a score of 4/2 proving to be a very light group to qualify from
The Boys “A” Cup was a fantastic competition with a total of 3 groups, thus the 3 group winners and the best overall runner up played out 2 great semi final matches:
Louth Village unlucky in last year’s final got through to play St Oliver’s from Carlingford, both semi finals finished 3/2 but there was to be no denying Louth Village this time, and they avenged last year’s defeat to take the title 4/2 in a great game:
The Boys “C“ Section was also a very tight affair with St: Mary’s NS of Drogheda winning out against a classy Bay Estate outfit from Dundalk, on a 4/2 score line: This game was very close right up to the last minute and both sides deserve great credit for putting on a great show of attacking football in the final:
The Girls “B “ Section was another excellent competition but a physical St: Joseph’s side from Muirhevnamor again showed why they where Champions for the second time running when they came out on top against a very good and skilful Scoil Bhride in the final on a 4/2 score line with the St: Joseph’s keeper making a string of fine saves to see her side through:
The Boys “B” Section was won by Realt Na Mara from Dundalk who got through following an amazing 7/1 victory over a very tired Dulargy side who had to get through a very hard group stage: Nobody would have predicted this score line as both sides where excellent all morning, again the football in this group was top notch and played in a very sporting manner:
FAI Regional Development Officer for Louth and organiser of the tournament Mick Neville, wanted to acknowledge the great assistance given by Mark Scanlon the Regional Development Officer for Meath:
Mick would like to thank Dundalk F:C: in particular Paul Johnston, Leanne Brady and Community Development Officer Dean Arrowsmith’ for all of their help during the week:
Also the students from both O Fiach College Dundalk and the Marist College transition year students, who did a fantastic job refereeing all of the games throughout the week without their help it would have been very difficult to run the competitions so well:
Paul Johnston the General Manager for Dundalk F:C: was fantastic he gave every child a free ticket to the Dundalk game v U:C:D: and along with Dundalk F:C: Player Peter Cherrie did the presentation of the medals:
Congratulations to all the winners who will now represent Louth in the upcoming North Leinster Finals on May 9 in the M:D:L Grounds in Navan: Good luck to all!
