Meath’s Franciscan College, Gormanston will play host to the Post Primary Schools Leinster First Year Futsal Finals tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28 for the third year running:
288 players representing 24 qualifying schools from 12 counties will participate in this year’s event:
The Post Primary Schools futsal competition is in its fourth year nationally after a successful pilot programme in 2009: The competition caters for first year students with both boys and girls categories catered for:
Donabate Community Schooland Loreto Secondary School, Balbriggan will represent Dublin for the first time ever: These schools qualified in tough circumstances in their regional qualifiers: A number of Dublin schools missed out marginally on qualification as the contest was so close to call: This test is sure to keep their competitive edge as they compete in the Leinster’s tomorrow:
Last year’s Leinster winners were MEATH’s St: Peter’s College in Dunboyne and KILKENNY’s Grennan College, Thomastown are still in contention, however it’s Grennan boys that will be looking for Provincial honours as the girls team failed to qualify for this provincial stage: Questions will be asked of their competitors who ousted them at County level:::: Presentation Secondary School::: Will they be in the running for provincial medals?
Ballymahon’s Mercy Secondary School will have dual representation in the Leinster Finals as they represent Longford in the decider: The School will obviously double their chances of securing provincial silverware in Gormanston: The girls and boys section will fight it out with the hope of one or both of their teams progressing to the All Ireland series on December 5 in the same venue:
Kildare hopefuls this time around will be CBS Naas in the boys section while the girls section will be represented by Holy Family Secondary School from Newbridge:
Meath’s St: Peter’s College based in Dunboyne will be representing the Royal County alongside Eureka Secondary School of Kells who were Leinster winners two years previously:
Laois Schools to qualify this year include Mountrath Community School in the boys category and the successful Scoil Chriost Rí who will be enjoying their advancement from County status in the girls section:
Westmeath’s Wilson Hospital School, Multyfarnham qualified three years ago and will be quietly confident of doing a good job at the next level up: Mentor Gavin Kieran’s will be on hand to support his young hopefully: Castlepollard Community College will see the girls section compete at this level for the second consecutive year:
Louth’s De La Salle College, Dundalk and Our Lady’s Greenhills, Drogheda make the cut while Kilkenny’s Grennan College, Thomastown and Presentation Secondary School will make a welcome return yet again to the Provincial stage:
Richelle O’Neill will mentor Colaiste Choilm, Tullamore in the boys section in Offaly while neighbouring Sacred Heart School, Tullamore will relish the challenge put in front of them under the leadership of teacher Sean McFadden:
Wexford CBS and Presentation Secondary School will fly the flag for Wexford this year:
St: Leo’s College and Bagenalstown’s Presentation De La Salle will do the honours for Carlow as they go in search of Provincial glory:
The day will be action packed as all schools bid for the honour of being crowned First Year Futsal Champions for 2012: All games will kick off at 11am as group one winners will play group two winners in the final which is due to commence at 2:45pm in both sections: Good luck to all participating schools:
