The strong breeze made it quite difficult for both teams to adjust to the conditions and the game was at a stalemate following the first half action:
Balbriggan had the wind to their advantage in the second period and made it count as they broke the deadlock ten minutes in with a fantastic long range effort from Laoise McAleenan
It looked like McAleenan’s goal would be enough to secure the silverware for Loreto but with ten minutes remaining Rachel McDermott fired home an equaliser for the Dunboyne ladies:
Just as we had thought the game was going into extra time, up popped Anna O’Dwyer with the match winner: The St: Peter’s pupil broke through the Loreto defence and calmly slotted home much to the delight of the Meath contingency:
