Albion Rovers Inaugural Primary School's Cup was held on Saturday (June 14) in superb weather at Albion's sun drenched grounds:
This event was all about participation and here was the real success - approximately 350 children represented a total of 34 teams across 6 Local Primary School's - Ballapousta NS, Collon NS, Harestown NS, Mell NS, Tenure NS & Tullyallen NS:
Many of these kids had never played soccer before and hopefully they have gained a taste for the game and will continue to take part after their endeavours here:
The quality of football on display, from teams that have never taken the field together before, was exceptional: The games were evenly and fairly contested throughout with many groups so evenly matched it was difficult to separate the teams:
First out was the 1st/2nd Class Category with nine teams involved: In an incredibly close final Tenure Blue took home the trophy after a penalty shoot out victory over Tullyallen Blue:
Next up was the 3rd/4th Class Category with ten teams taking part: Again the two finalists could not be separated in normal time and after an absorbing game it was Ballapousta who came out victorious on penalties over Harestown:
The third Category was the All Girls and as a club we were delighted to see seven All Girls Teams take to the field with great determination in what was an incredibly enjoyable section: In the final Tullyallen eventually overcame Collon to lift the Cup:
Last up was the 5/6th Class Category with eight teams competing: Ballapousta supplied both finalists in this section and their yellow team overcame their red team for a well deserved win which rounded out the football in style:
Albion would like to thank all the players who participated, the schools, teachers and principals whose co/operation was incredible, and all their own club members who volunteered their time to help the event run like clockwork and contributed enormously to what was a magnificent occasion:
Running in tandem to the School's Cup was a Family Day: This was the icing on the cake where the kids stayed on and enjoyed themselves long after their games were over:
In this regard Albion would like to thank everyone for the various activities, Pelican Promotions who supplied the Bouncy Castles, Fiona at FiFi the Face Painter, the girls painting nails and everyone who gave their time here:
Many thanks also to the FAI Schools Leinster Branch for their approval for this venture & our excellent ongoing working relationship with them:
Albion also has a busy schedule ahead with their Summer Camp and annual Eddie Maher Pre Season Tournament prior to the leagues resuming:
As always the club are looking for new players in all age groups for next season to maintain their current teams and hopefully form new teams particularly Girls at all ages to expand their All Girls setup:
If you are interested please try out with Albion Rovers FC where everyone is always welcome to participate:
