Metro Schools First Year League Division 3 Final at McKelvey Park (Tony McGennis)
Gaelcholaiste Reachrann 4 Pobalscoil Setanta 2 (aet ) (full/time 2/2)
Gaelcholaiste Reachrann scooped victory in an amazing turnaround, starting in the last minute of normal time:
Setanta were on the verge of victory as Matthew Kennedy and Owen Akiana’s goals helped them to a 2/1 lead:
However Sean O’Brachain managed to break through the tight Setanta defence and struck to send the affair to extra time:
The teams’ colours were the same as last year’s English FA Cup final, and, once again the Wigan/style dark blue and white stripes got the upper hand:
The team became energized after their last gasp equalizer, and quickly went two in front in additional time, with goals from Josh O’Banain and Shane O’Aolain (his second):
As the skillful Setanta side started to create chances, with Andrei Onea, Mohammed Diallo and Owen Akiana to the fore, the eventual winners managed to keep them at bay: Paddy O’ Choinne made a few important saves while Jack Mac Phaidin was a rock in central defence:
Man of the match was Jordan O’Dochtartaigh (Reachrann):
Referee: Paddy McHugh
Mentors: Conor Doherty (Setanta); Cathal O’Fearghail (Reachrann)
