St. Patrick’s BNS Portarlington win the Offaly Primary Schools Futsal

Five Primary Schools took part in today’s Futsal blitz which took place in the fantastic new facilities in Mucklagh Community Centre.

The locals Mucklagh NS looked like the hot favourites after winning their first three games but St. Patrick’s BNS Portarlington weren't going to give up top spot easily and after a draw against Edenderry BNS they had it all to do but three wins from three in their final three games saw them top the group with 10 points and Mucklagh in second on 9 points.

3rd / 4th Place Playoff
Edenderry BNS finished the day in third after an 8-2 win against Scoil Mhuire agus Chormaic but it certainly wasn't as one sided as the score might reflect. Edenderry raced into an early 3-0 lead before Noah Kavanagh pulled one back for the Kilcormac lads. We saw some great defending from Oran Fletcher but there was just no stopping Declan O’ Sagie though as he scored his 4th of the game before Cormac Farrell & Charlie Connell fired home to make it 7-1. Dan Feighery made it 7-2 with a great finish before Eoghan Cullen added another right at the end for Edenderry.

Final
It was St. Patrick’s who went into the final as favourites after topping the group and they certainly didn't disappoint. Ade Solanke & Callum Donnelly settled any nerves with two early goals but Mucklagh were not going to give up easy and Eoghan Meacle pulled one back to make it 2-1. Eoin Mc Evoy scored a cracking volley to regain the two goal advantage and goalkeeper Filip Grala pulled off some fine saves to keep the game at 3-1 for a long period. Mucklagh then scored again through Dara Bates and it was game on at 3-2! Ade Solanke showed his class to score a superb goal before a fantastic individual effort from Patrick Murray and a dazzling run and shot from Callum Donnelly extended the lead to 6-2. Mucklagh were not going to give up though as they pulled two goals back through Robert Regazzoli & Eoghan Meacle got his second. Mucklagh also hit the crossbar late on but it was the St. Patrick’s boys who held on to win in the end 6-4.

Well done to all the Schools who took part and a big thank you must go to the TY students from Colaiste Choilm Tullamore who assisted on the day as referees.
