Gaelscoil Inse Chór, Islandbridge go for double in Inchicore local Primary Schools competition
RICHMOND PARK home to St. Patrick’s Athletic FC will play host to the Inchicore local Primary Schools Finals Day.
It’s a special day for Islandbridge outfit Gaelscoil Inse Chór as both their girls and boys squads have qualified for the Final which will take place later today as proceedings get underway at 11am. St. Audoen’s NS, Cook Street will be their opposition in the girls finale while Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Tyrconnell Road will face off in the boys decider at 12 noon.
The Finals Day on June 13 is the culmination of a round robin contest which six schools from the Inchicore area (and surrounds) entering both a girls and a boys team for local derby blitz day events.
The schools included Inchicore National School, Our Lady of Lourdes NS, Our Lady of the Wayside NS as well as our finalists.
Most of these fun games were played at the CIE Grounds in Inchicore and Bluebell with the top two teams facing off in the Final.
David Rake, FAI Development Officer in Inchicore oversees this excellent initiative which is now in its eight year. The competition follows on from an initial Garda lead initiative and then a combination of local club side St. Patrick’s Athletic FC coming on board, together with the cooperation of all the local schools brings about the final showcase this afternoon
‘Every year it creates a lot of enthusiasm amongst the schools, the teachers, parents and of course, the children. Approximately 250 children have participating this year with most of the kids not regular sports enthusiasts so it’s a great way of getting the players involved in sport and perhaps even link them to a club if they are inspired to develop their skill set. The emphasis is very much on fun and participation’ says David.
The initiative will recognise the achievements of all 12 participating teams this season with a plaque presented to the most valuable player in each school.
