Mullingar Community College 2/1 Wilson’s Hospital School, Multyfarnham
A difficult season for both Mullingar and Wilson’s drew to a close with a final playoff: The match was played in perfect conditions at Mullingar Athletic AFC fine facility at Gainstown, Mullingar on Friday 26 March 2010:
This was the second encounter between the teams in the West Leinster Division 2 league:
Wilson’s were easy winners early in the season but Mullingar CC had upped their game throughout the rest of the campaign: So a closely fought tie was always likely:
Both sides made strident efforts in the first half but Mullingar were the better team: They proved it with their first goal: Adam Hogan beat the Wilson’s defence and struck home after 20 minutes:
Mullingar CC made it 2 nil after 37 minutes: A corner found the head of Emmanuel Nwokeiwie and he made no mistake it putting it past Wilson’s Andy Dolan:
The second half looked more promising for the Multyfarnham men: Philip Sikazwa replaced Peregrine McCall and Wilson’s kept the pressure up: They were rewarded when the mercurial Sean McCarthy struck a beautiful short range volley home at 80 minutes:
This was not enough though and Mullingar CC held on for a well deserved 2 – 1 win:
